SM | San Marino | Migration flows 2008 - 2024 | 2026-07-16Yearly totals match the interactive flow map: Eurostat bilateral for EU focus, World Bank SM.POP.NETM elsewhere; residual by population (SP.POP.TOTL). OECD not used. Colour: low = navy, high = red. Partner countries (all years)Model: World Bank net migration with modelled partner split — no bilateral Eurostat edges for this country. Strongest partner countries (2008–2024) Summed across all available years; ranked by net per partner (immigration into the focus country).
Bilateral migration partners by year Map, table and data sourcesThe table lists, for the selected year, the main partner countries of the current state. “Immigration” means inflow from the partner into the country you are viewing; “emigration” means outflow from that country to the partner. “Net” means the magnitude of the difference between the two directions (absolute value in the column). The same logic underpins the edges on the interactive world map above. Reading the map: The focus country is highlighted; lines show movement links to partners. Use the year list on the right to choose which years are shown (multiple selection). Hovering countries and connections shows extra detail (year, direction, scale). Sources (NationFiles): For EU member states, bilateral Eurostat counts (migr_imm1ctz / migr_emi1ctz, excluding the ZZ aggregate) are primary. The gap between World Bank WDI indicator SM.POP.NETM (net migration) and the sum of recorded Eurostat bilateral cells is allocated as a residual across partners using World Bank SP.POP.TOTL (population). For non-EU focus countries, the interactive map and partner table use only World Bank SM.POP.NETM (net migration per year) and a proportional split across partners by World Bank SP.POP.TOTL; bilateral Eurostat flows are not applied, because for non-EU states they largely reflect EU reporting and would hide major world regions. OECD International Migration Database (MIG) is not used. Why immigration or emigration can be 0: For a given partner and year, only one direction may be observed in the sources, so the other stays 0. Depending on coverage and modelling, the mass can also sit almost entirely on one side. Very small values may round to 0. Rows are sorted by net difference (largest first). Country names link to each state’s migration subpage in your current language.
